Bob Mahlman, USA - IVETA President

Dato Baharudin Abdullah, Malaysia - President Elect

Dato Baharudin Abdullah was the Executive Director for Sarawak Skills Development Centre (SSDC). He has been leading SSDC for 20 years since the inception of the organization. His true commitment and contribution towards development of youth technical skills in line with government aspiration led him to be conferred the “ Darjah Yang Amat Mulia Bintang Sarawak Panglima Setia Bintang Sarawak (P.S.B.S.) “ that carries the title ‘Dato’. Mr. Abdullah who is from Malaysia was the host along with Sarawak Skills Development of the 2015 IVETA International Conference.

Carmel Therese Thompson, Australia - IVETA Past President

Ms.Thompson previously served two terms as the IVETA Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific before becoming President-Elect of IVETA.  . She is the Managing Director of The Southern Cross Connection..  Carmel was previously the owner of Achievers International College & Achievers Business College in Brisbane, Australia which offered courses in Business, Travel, Hospitality, Management and Information Technology to both local and overseas students. In 1994, Carmel foresaw a shift in education and training out of the classroom into industry and high schools. She sold her colleges to the Educational Foundation Group of Japan and set up an international consultancy under the name of The Southern Cross Connection.

She is a qualified Accountant who possesses a skill for getting the job done through the medium of collaboration and communication. She has had considerable experience in the international marketplace. This has resulted in the building of strong relationships with other leaders in this industry.  Carmel is a highly respected trainer specializing in Leadership Programs and also Teacher and Workplace Trainer Courses . She has a high profile in Australia and has served on numerous International and Australian educational boards and committees. She is also a much sought after speaker at national and international conferences focusing on Leadership and Engaging Learners in the Learning Process.  Carmel’s credibility as a business consultant and trainer is enhanced by her business credentials, reputation and experience. She has been a member of IVETA since 2002.

Margo Couldrey, Australia - General Secretary

Margo Couldrey is the Director of Lista Consulting which she established in 2005, and is a former senior executive in the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA). Margo has had executive leadership experience across diverse policy areas including managing Commonwealth/State relations, working with national committees to achieve policy reforms in Australia’s vocational education and training (VET) system and 10 years in the administration of human rights and anti-discrimination law.

She has had significant experience advising governments, industry, and training providers on training system policy and practice, and strategies to lift workforce productivity and participation and investment in skills.  Much of her current work occurs at the interface between Commonwealth, States and Territories and industry.

Margo has been a member of IVETA since 2013 and attended the 2014 international IVETA conference in Helsinki where she presented a workshop on portable skills for a global economy.  She is particularly interested in ways to improve access and outcomes in VET for learners and industry

Executive Director, Finland  - Mari Kontturi

Mari Kontturi was Vice President for Europe and has served in this position for the past four years.  Mari Kontturi holds a Master of Laws degree.  She is the Manager of International Affairs at Luovi Vocational College in Finland, the largest special needs education provider in Finland. She is involved in the work of European Platform of Rehabilitation as a center coordinator and active in several networks in Finland. Mari Kontturi has a qualification for teaching, too (vocational teacher). Before working in the field of vocational education and training Mari Kontturi worked as a lawyer in the labor administration and in the banking sector and she has also trained on the bench. She has also experience in working in the field of organizational activities in the Pulmonary Association Heli. She has been involved in international cooperation since 1997 and taken part in numerous projects.  Mari Kontturi joined IVETA in 2005. Luovi Vocational College is an institutional member in IVETA.
